The island will hold a large-scale military exercise
Taiwan will hold a large-scale exercise to simulate a Chinese invasion. This was reported by Reuters on July 1.
The annual Han Kuan exercises will begin on July 9 and last 10 days. The training, unprecedented in duration and scale, will mobilize more than 22,000 reservists.
The head of the defense ministry's Joint Combat Planning Department Tung Zhi-hsing said the exercise scenarios include a "joint fire attack and sea crossing of a Communist Army landing group," while Taiwan's armed forces will practice building a "strike chain" using precision attacks from sea and air.
President Lai Qingde of the Republic of China has said that in recent years Taiwan has been constantly preparing for "war without the powder smoke of gunfire," such as Chinese infiltration and disinformation attacks.
The Chinese Taiwan Affairs Office did not comment on the situation.
In May, the Financial Times wrote that the Chinese army could attack Taiwan at any time.
