The tanker was flying the flag of the Marshall Islands.
The tanker Vilamoura, on which there was an explosion in the engine compartment, repeatedly transported oil products from Russian ports.
This was reported on Tuesday, July 1, by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
It is noted that the explosion occurred on June 27 during the vessel's passage from the Libyan port of Ez-Zuwaitina, 150 kilometers northeast of Libyan territorial waters. The tanker was flying the flag of the Marshall Islands and was loaded with at least 1 million barrels of crude oil.
"Vilamoura has been repeatedly used to transport oil products from the ports of the aggressor state Russia. For example, in April 2025 the tanker was in the terminal of the port of Ust-Luga, in May it was fixed in the vicinity of Novorossiysk," the GSD said.
As of July 1, the tanker damaged by the explosion is heading to the Gulf of Lakon in Greece - it is being pulled by the Malta-flagged fire tugboat Boka Summit.
The GSD emphasized that the owner of the Vilamoura tanker is the transport company TMS Tanker ltd, registered in Marousi, Greece.
