Eight Political Parties Of Georgia Announced A Boycott Of The Elections

The opposition was making a statement.

Eight political parties in Georgia refused to participate in local elections. According to the representatives of the parties, local elections are a legitimization of the illegal regime.

The boycott was announced by Freedom Square, European Georgia, United National Movement, Agmashenebeli Strategy, Akhali, Girchi - More Freedom, Droa and Federalists. The general statement of the parties is as follows:

"We, the pro-Western political parties and groups of Georgia, whose goal is the complete dismantling of the Russian regime of Ivanishvili, the defense of Georgia's independence and sovereignty, the establishment of European-style democratic governance, the creation of a safe environment and opportunity for a dignified life for our citizens, as well as the accession of our country to the European Union and NATO, jointly declare:

We refuse to participate in the so-called local government elections, as we believe that in the current reorganization of the local self-governance bodies, we will not participate in the elections. We believe that the way to victory lies in complete non-cooperation with the regime. Together with the citizens of Georgia we continue the common national resistance. Until the end."

In May 2024, mass protests began in Georgia over the law on foreign agents. The ruling Georgian Dream party accused the West of "financing the revolutionary scenario in Georgia."

In the fall, after the Georgian Dream won the parliamentary elections, protests continued as the opposition considered the election results rigged.
