Lukashenko Puts Out The Fire With Gasoline

The ruler's recent statements may have serious consequences.

Hardly anyone can say for sure how in Lukashenko's head the problems of cattle grazing, shortage of personnel in agriculture and the need for universal conscription are put together in a logical chain, writes "Salidarnasts".

It is not difficult to describe how it all looks from the outside, through the eyes of an ordinary Belarusian. As well as to predict what consequences the cynical recognition of serfdom in the country may have.

Yes, the words of the 70-year-old ruler that girls will not marry someone who has not served are hopelessly far from the preferences and moods of today's young generation. But in any case, they will scare the current boys' relatives.

In the background of the general militaristic frenzy and the words that we are "still somehow holding on and not fighting", threats to make everyone serve look like the final stage in the preparation for that very war.

And it is clear to everyone that if we have to fight, it will not be for the country, but for the sake of keeping the ruling regime at the helm. What conclusion will responsible and loving parents draw from this?

Right - we will face a new wave of those leaving. Some will send their sons abroad one-way to study or under any other plausible pretext. Others will leave with their whole families.

Many of us have those in our families who remember the Soviet-style "serfdom". When ordinary collective farmers were not issued passports. And the attempt not only to pin the blame for their own mistakes on those who have just entered the profession today, but also the promise to bind them permanently to a half-dead collective farm, will have its price.

Villages will not have more agronomists and veterinarians. Nor will the problem of livestock deaths and shortage of vegetables be solved. On the contrary, it will only get worse. Tested by other experimenters of economics and common sense.
