American billionaire Ilon Musk is promising to form a new political party if the Republican Party's tax-and-spending bill passes.

A former ally of Donald Trump has suggested that if the domestic policy bill passes, he would quickly form a new "American Party" and support challengers in primaries against nearly every Republican in Congress.

"If this crazy spending bill passes, the American Party will be formed the next day. Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat/Republican system so that people actually have a voice," he wrote on social media X on Monday, June 30.

Musk also pledged to take concrete action, saying he would support Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky, one of the most prominent opponents of Trump's bill. While various factions of the Republican Party have expressed concerns about the legislative package, potentially preventing its passage, nearly every Republican member of Congress supports some version of it.

The same night, Musk, who has donated nearly $300 million to Republican candidates in the 2024 election, wrote that nearly the entire House and Senate Republican parties "will lose their primaries next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth."
