The Telegraph: The British Have Trashed Putin's Ultimatums

Interesting poll results about Ukraine.

Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin has laid out his conditions for both a cease-fire and an end to the war in Ukraine. Among Russia's demands are a reduction in the size of the Ukrainian army and recognition of Russian as an official language.

The Telegraph made a poll among its readers, asking them two simple questions concerning our country - whether Ukraine should accept the ceasefire terms proposed by Putin, and whether Ukraine should be admitted to NATO.

Should Ukraine accept Putin's terms

The vast majority - 92 percent of the more than 20,000 survey participants - answered "no." Readers of the publication believe that what Putin has proposed are not peace terms but "demands for complete surrender and submission."

For many, agreeing to the terms, including international recognition of Russian sovereignty over four occupied regions of Ukraine, would mean betraying the bravery and determination of Ukrainians who are fighting Russian aggression.

Many foreigners also believe that the West should continue to increase military support for Ukraine. In addition, Putin's proposals are also seen as an act of desperation, indicating that Russia is backed into a corner.

Should Ukraine be admitted to NATO

In response to Putin's demands, readers also questioned his categorical opposition to Ukraine joining NATO - a decision they believe should be made by Ukraine itself and the alliance's members.

One reader wrote: "Ukraine has already made concessions, while Russia has made none. If the reason for the invasion is NATO expansion, and Ukraine cannot join at the same time, isn't that already a concession?"

Another user believes that Ukraine should be admitted to NATO, because it is the only language Putin is willing to understand, even if he pretends not to. Moreover, he adds that since Russia violated the Budapest Memorandum in 2014, Ukraine should even return the nuclear weapons it gave up then.
