They worked in the office of Sputnik Azerbaijan agency.

In the course of the operation conducted by the Azerbaijani police in the office of the Sputnik agency (Baku branch of the Russian news agency Rossiya Segodnya), there are detainees.

According to information received by the 1news.az, two employees of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) working in the agency have been detained during the operation.

Reminder, since this morning the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry has been conducting an operation in the Baku office of "Sputnik Azerbaijan".

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Aykhan Hajizadeh said on February 24, 2025, that "Sputnik Azerbaijan" was liquidated, and the media can get accreditation for the work of one correspondent. Report writes that despite this, "it turned out that the agency continued to work and its employees go to work."

Baku decided to reduce the number of Sputnik Azerbaijan employees from 40 to one in order to "restore the balance in the conditions under which Azerbaijani state publications abroad and foreign journalists work" in Baku.

Relations between Azerbaijan and Russia escalated after more than 50 people of Azerbaijani origin were detained in Yekaterinburg on June 27. At least two people were killed during the detention. Baku demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice, and the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry expressed a "strong protest" to the Russian ambassador. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said afterwards that the detainees were Russian citizens.

With this background, the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation decided not to participate in the meeting of the commission of the Milli Majlis of the republic and the Federal Assembly of Russia on interparliamentary cooperation, and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture canceled all joint cultural events planned in Azerbaijan by Russian state and private institutions.
