Kremlin Finally Classifies Data On Russian Economy

Russia is hiding sensitive information.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has expanded the list of information that falls under Russia's state secrets law, further tightening his grip on society amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.

According to Bloomberg. According to the decree, state secrets may now include data on Russia's foreign policy, international trade and economic policy, scientific developments, as well as preparations for possible military mobilization. Those who obtain such information without authorization can be sentenced to up to eight years in prison.

"This is the destruction of expert assessment of the Russian economy, which is based on facts and statistics, and will lead to a new wave of repression," said Andrey Soldatov, an expert on Russian security agencies. He said the classification of information on mobilization is probably a reaction to Ukrainian drone attacks - it is not so much a question of a new draft, but of hiding details such as the location of bunkers and government evacuation plans.
