CNN: Trump Has Unleashed His Wrath On Putin

The US President believes that the head of the Kremlin has "absolutely lost his mind".

Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul ended without a breakthrough: despite the agreement on prisoner exchange, the Kremlin continues to demand Kiev's complete surrender, writes CNN.

During the talks, Russia handed the Ukrainian side a new memorandum with tough demands - withdrawal of the AFU from the occupied territories, refusal to join NATO, complete demilitarization and a ban on the deployment of foreign troops. The Ukrainian government categorically rejects these conditions.

The Kremlin also insists on the lifting of sanctions, the rejection of reparations and the full restoration of diplomatic and economic relations. All this - without any real concessions from Moscow.

These maximalist positions of Putin have also become a blow to the image of Donald Trump. The US president, who has been actively promoting his "quick peace" strategy in Ukraine as a key promise for his second term, has shown anger: according to him, Putin has "absolutely lost his mind" after the recent massive attacks on Ukrainian cities.

Amid the failure of the Istanbul talks, an initiative for new, "devastating" sanctions against Russia is gaining momentum in the US Congress. One of its authors, Senator Richard Blumenthal, has publicly accused the Kremlin of trying to "make fools of Trump and America."

The situation poses a serious challenge for Trump: will he continue to insist on negotiations or resort to tough actions - in particular, increasing military aid to Kiev? Washington recognizes that the course of the war in Ukraine is increasingly affecting Trump's own political prospects.

"The fact that Putin has again responded uncompromisingly to calls for peace may now force Trump to act," the publication writes.
