The incident took place over the Baltic Sea.
German Air Force fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20M aircraft in the airspace near Poland's northern borders over the Baltic Sea.
This is reported by Bild.
The incident occurred in the morning of June 27. According to the publication, NATO radars detected the Il-20M spy plane at 9:02 local time (10:02 Kiev time). It flew out of Kaliningrad and was moving in international airspace with its transponders turned off and no communication.
At 9:32, two Eurofighter fighter jets took off from the airbase in Laza. They made visual contact with the Russian plane 100 kilometers off the German coast. It is alleged that the Il-20M then continued westward. 40 kilometers from the island of Usedom, the plane changed its course and headed north. It did not violate German airspace.
Bild reports that NATO fighter jets have been alerted nine times since the beginning of the year in connection with the appearance of Russian planes.
