NATO commented on Operation Web.
NATO Nuclear Policy Director Jim Stokes reacted to Ukraine's Operation Web, during which Russian strategic bombers were damaged.
"It was certainly interesting to see the results. I don't have detailed data on the operation itself, but it did have an impact ... You know, if I were sitting in the Kremlin, I certainly wouldn't be happy that a few strategic bombers were destroyed or damaged. I think we have to continue to watch both sides engage in the conflict," he said in an interview with Radio Liberty.
Stokes also commented on Russia's nuclear capabilities. He said the Russians have been modernizing their strategic nuclear weapons since the 2000s.
"They've modernized a lot of their capabilities. I think it remains to be seen how capable some of them are. They've certainly had some problems with some of the testing of new capabilities. We saw the effectiveness of some of their missiles against Ukraine, and it may not have been as high as many people expected," the NATO nuclear policy director said.
At the same time, he added that Russia remains one of the world's largest nuclear powers.
"I think they have the largest number of warheads. We monitor all their systems. Of course, we monitor their doctrine, their statements, all the rhetoric that they use, which comes in quite a lot, a lot of disinformation," Stokes emphasized.
