The head of the Kremlin is following the path of Leonid Brezhnev.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski believes that an arms race between aggressor country Russia and the West could lead to the fall of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's regime, as it happened to the Soviet Union. The Russian president provoked the West to increase defense spending.

The Polish foreign minister said this in an interview with world media after the leaders of NATO member states agreed to increase defense spending at a summit in The Hague. His words were quoted by journalists Anadolu.

The minister said Putin is following the path of Leonid Brezhnev. The Russian dictator is repeating the mistakes of the USSR and could lose power because of a new arms race.

"He himself once said that the Soviet Union collapsed because it spent too much on armaments, and now he is doing exactly the same thing," he said.

Sikorsky said that the Russian president is waging a "very expensive war" and has provoked the West to increase defense spending.

"He (Putin. - Ed.) is waging a very expensive war, and he has also provoked, scared the whole West by forcing it to increase defense spending. We are doing this because Putin is threatening us," Sikorski said.

He said this means that Putin will have to squeeze even more defense spending out of "an economy the size of Texas."

"Hopefully with a similar result for the regime (as in the Soviet Union), but faster," he added.
