Billionaire Jeff Bezos Moved His Lavish Wedding From The Center Of The Historic Venice Area

A reason has been given.

American billionaire Jeff Bezos moved his wedding with Lauren Sanchez from the center of Venice to another area due to protests of local residents. This is reported by Italian publication Panorama.

The wedding was previously reported to be held at the restored former charity school Scuola Grande della Misericordia. Now, however, guests will gather at the Venice Arsenal building, an equally luxurious venue, but located farther away from the city center. This information was confirmed to the BBC by an official at Venice City Hall.

According to Panorama, seven or eight superyachts owned by friends of the couple will take part in the event, and about 90 private flights and air cabs are planned to Venice airports and other nearby cities.

The wedding dates have not been announced, but about 200 guests are known to be invited, including Katy Perry, Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian and Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka.

It was previously reported that in response to Bezos' wedding in Venice, local activists papered the city walls with "No Place for Bezos" posters and placed banners on iconic tourist sites such as the Rialto Bridge and the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.

"What's happening here is blatant arrogance," said Marta Sottoriva, 34, an English teacher at Venice High School and an activist. - He is exploiting the city just as he exploited workers around the world to build his empire."

On June 23, activists unfurled a huge banner in St. Mark's Square that read, "If you can rent Venice for your wedding, you can pay more taxes." The banner was quickly removed by police.
