A Volcano In Indonesia Threw Out A Column Of Ash 11 Kilometers High

The moment was caught on video.

On Tuesday, June 17, the Levotobi Laki Laki volcano on the Indonesian island of Flores woke up again, throwing out a column of ash up to 10-11 km above sea level. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) instantly raised the alert level to the highest possible - fourth. Within a radius of 8 kilometers from the crater, authorities carried out an emergency evacuation of residents of several villages.

The ash column formed a "mushroom" cloud, which was visible at a distance of up to 90-150 km from the epicenter - villages were covered with volcanic debris. At the same time, officially no victims or injured were recorded, the news agency reported the moment was caught on video. Associated Press.

Air traffic in the region was disrupted: Franciscus X airport was temporarily closed. Sedah on Flores, and dozens of flights to Bali - both domestic and international - have been canceled or delayed. By the way, the volcano has already shown its character in 2024 and March 2025: then the eruptions caused human casualties, damage and transportation restrictions.

The Levotobi volcano has two peaks: the "male" - Laki Laki (1584 m) and the "female" - Perempuan (1703 m). After a latent start of activity in December 2023, eruptions in November 2024 killed at least 9 people, thousands of people were evacuated, and airports in Bali and Flores were closed due to large ash emissions.
