Canada has announced a new military aid package of 2 billion Canadian dollars (about $1.5 billion) for Ukraine.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced this on Tuesday, June 17, during a meeting with President Vladimir Zelensky at the G7 summit.
"We are providing additional military aid: drones, helicopters, various ammunition. In total, we are talking about more than $2 billion in direct military assistance to Ukraine," Carney said.
In addition, Canada announced a significant expansion of sanctions against Russia. According to the Prime Minister, restrictions have been imposed on a number of individuals and more than 40 organizations in Russia and abroad that are involved in sanctions evasion schemes. More than 200 vessels of the so-called "shadow fleet" also came under the restrictions.
Carney announced a $2 billion loan to Ukraine under the loan, which will be covered by interest from frozen Russian funds.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at the G7 summit, which is being held in Kananaskis, Canada in 2025.
It is also known that the Ukrainian head of state will take part in a special meeting of G7 leaders - A strong and sovereign Ukraine.
