The UK has announced new sanctions against Russia.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer plans to announce new sanctions against Russia to pressure Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
This is reported by Sky news, citing a Downing Street statement.
The Prime Minister "will launch sustained action to hit Putin where it hurts the most and make it clear that we will keep up the pressure until Russia is ready to commit to a full and unconditional ceasefire and show that they are serious about working towards a just and sustainable peace."
Starmer will deliver a speech in which he will argue that "Russia is not holding all the cards" and urge allies to "seize this moment to increase economic pressure and show President Putin that it is in his interest - and Russia's interest - to demonstrate that he is serious about peace."
On June 10, the EU unveiled its 18th package of sanctions against aggressor country Russia. It specifically provides for a transaction ban for Nord Stream-1 and Nord Stream-2. This means that no EU operator will be able to participate directly or indirectly in any transactions on the Nord Stream pipelines.
