The U.S. president responded on whether he could have made peace with the billionaire.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he could mend relations with American billionaire Ilon Musk, but first he needs to "get the country in order." He said this in an interview with Miranda Devine for the New York Post published on June 11.
When asked by the reporter about a potential reconciliation between the parties, Trump said his "only function right now is to get this country back to a level higher than it's ever been."
The American leader said he does not "blame" Musk for breaking their alliance and "holds no grudges" but is "a little disappointed."
"I have no grudges. I was very surprised that it happened. He went against a phenomenal bill. It's unbelievable. It's the best thing we've ever signed in this country. And it's just phase one, phase two, phase three. All of a sudden, things are starting to come together. It's coming together very well. And when he did it - I was not thrilled. So sorry," he revealed.
"I was disappointed in him, but, you know, it is what it is," Trump admitted after the host noted that Musk seems to treat the president "a little bit like a father."
The reporter asked Trump if Musk has a drug problem. Trump replied that he didn't know that.
"I haven't really thought about that lately. He just hasn't realized it. I think he's really sorry he said it. It may have been about something else," the American president noted.
