Belarus Is Excluded From The Board Of Trustees Of The German Foundation "Remembrance, Responsibility And Future"

Amendments to the relevant law were approved by the Bundestag deputies.

Belarus and Russia have been excluded from the board of trustees of the German charity foundation "Remembrance, Responsibility and Future" (EVZ), Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Alexei Makeev said on June 1.

His words, quoted by the "Deutsche Welle", such a decision was made on March 24, 2025, after the amendments to the relevant law were approved by the Bundestag deputies.

"The new rules allow suspending membership if it contradicts the objectives of the fund or carries reputational or security risks. As a result, the membership of Russia and Belarus has been suspended until at least August 2028," Makeev noted.

The diplomat said "this is not just a symbolic decision": "We are experiencing tectonic changes in the German paradigm of historical memory. This is another step towards the restoration of historical truth."

The foundation's board of trustees includes representatives of Germany, Israel, Poland, the United States, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, as well as the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Organization for Migration.
