The Prime Ministers Of Poland And The Netherlands Were Attacked At A Ceremony In Wageningen

Pro-Palestinian activists may be behind the attack.

In the Dutch city of Wageningen, a smoke bomb was thrown toward Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schof and his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk during an official ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the country's liberation from Nazi occupation. This was reported by Dutch newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen (GVA).

The incident occurred just before the leaders were due to light the symbolic flame of liberation, the main ritual of the annual celebration. After a smoke bomb exploded, security immediately evacuated the politicians from the stage.

Reporters said pro-Palestinian activists may be behind the attack. They shouted slogans, booed Schof, held Palestinian handkerchiefs and red cards, symbolically "kicking out" the Dutch prime minister.

Despite the incident, within minutes, the two leaders returned to the stage with heavy security and lit a fire. The event continued with a musical performance.

May 8 is World War II Victory Day in Europe. It was on this day in 1945 that the Anti-Hitler Coalition officially signed the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany in Berlin.
