Hamas is retreating.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has brought all regular infantry and armored brigades into the Gaza Strip. This was reported on May 24 by the Israeli TV channel "CAN Hadashot", citing sources in the security forces.
An airborne brigade was the last to enter the Strip. Earlier, Golani, Givati, Nahal and Kfir units were sent there, as well as the 7th Armored Brigade "Saar mi Golan," the 188th "Barak," the 401st "Iqwaot a-Barzel" and special units. The fighting is concentrated in two areas, in the north of the sector and in the Khan Younis area in the south. A few days before, the IDF called on residents of these areas to evacuate to humanitarian areas. Massive airstrikes were also carried out in the said areas.
"CAN Hadashot" notes that, unlike previous phases of the war, the advance of Israeli troops is slow, prioritizing security. This decision was made by Chief of General Staff Eyal Zamir and Southern Military District Commander Yaniv Asur. According to their orders, the troop movement is being carried out "with security at the expense of speed" - that is, with air cover and phased deployment of forces.
The channel's sources said the soldiers are currently facing almost no resistance. Israeli intelligence believes that most Hamas militants have left the battle areas, retreating southward.
