Mexican Navy Ship Rammed Into Brooklyn Bridge In New York: New Facts

A full picture of the incident has been reconstructed.

In the evening, May 17, the Mexican Navy ship "Cuautemoc" rammed the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. As a result of the incident, two people were killed, injured about 20 people.

It is reported New York Post and Bloomberg. It is known that the training ship was in New York City as part of its annual round-the-world tour and was scheduled to visit 22 ports in 15 countries.

The ship's crew of 277, mostly cadets, likely lost power while leaving New York City toward Iceland. According to Mayor Eric Adams and according to video footage of the accident, the current carried it onto the pavement of the bridge.

According to Adams, 19 people are in serious or critical condition as a result of the collision. The fire department reported 17 injured, four of whom are in critical condition.

Video from the scene shows the tall mast crashing into the bridge decking and collapsing downward. After that, other masts fell down after it. Frightened onlookers standing in Brooklyn Park under the bridge rushed to flee the scene as the boat moved toward the greenbelt.

"The boat was coming under the bridge and there were sailors on top of the boat, the sails hit the bridge and then people started falling off the sails," one witness to the horrific accident said.

Traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge in both directions was temporarily suspended before being reopened. According to Commissioner Idanis Rodriguez, the Department of Transportation found no significant damage to the bridge.
