The data is being withheld to achieve "strategic uncertainty" and to prevent Russian Federation from gaining any advantage in the war.

The German government will stop publishing detailed information about military aid to Ukraine, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said during a visit to Kiev. "Under my leadership, the debate on arms deliveries, caliber, weapons systems and so on will be taken out of the public eye," he said (quoted by Reuters).

An earlier knowledgeable source told the agency that data on military aid to Ukraine would be withheld to achieve "strategic uncertainty" and prevent Russia from gaining any advantage in the war. He said that, among other things, the government would stop keeping a list of transferred weapons, which has been regularly updated on the website since June 21, 2022.

At the "coalition of the willing" summit in Kiev, Merz was also asked about the delivery of long-range Taurus missiles, which was one of his campaign promises. The politician did not give a direct answer, but did not rule out the possibility. Shortly before his election, he said the decision would be taken in "coordination with partners."

Merz, who took office as chancellor on May 6, assured that Germany would not abandon its commitment to support Ukraine in the fight against the Russian invasion. "It is in our common European interest. This war threatens not only the territorial integrity of Ukraine. This war is trying to destroy completely the political order of Europe. That is why we are together with Ukraine," he noted. On the same day, the German government announced the transfer of 66 mine-resistant armored vehicles, about 50,000 artillery shells and ammunition to the AFU, including for IRIS-T air defense equipment.

Earlier, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said that Berlin will allocate Kiev more than 11 billion euros of military aid up to and including 2029, of which 3 billion euros - this year. By the end of 2025 Ukraine will receive four IRIS-T air defense systems and 300 shells to them, 30 missiles for Patriot, 15 Leopard 1 tanks, 25 Marder combat vehicles, as well as 100 thousand artillery ammunition. In addition, Germany may transfer American Patriot air defense systems to Kiev; this issue is being discussed with the United States, sources told The New York Times.
