The floodgates remained open for eight hours.
India opened two sluices at the Baglihar dam on Saturday, causing the Chenab river to overflow.
It was reported by Times of India.
The cause was a rise in water levels due to heavy rains that had lashed the region the previous day.
According to the publication's sources, the locks remained open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm to regulate water flow.
The event came in the backdrop of agreements between India and Pakistan to suspend hostilities but without discussing the Indus Waters Treaty, which India had earlier suspended.
According to this agreement, India has full right to use the waters of the eastern rivers - the Sutlej, Bias and Ravi - while Pakistan has full right to use the waters of the western rivers, particularly the Chenab, Jhelum and Indus.
It may be recalled that on May 4, India had cut off water through the Baglihar dam on the Chenab river.
This decision by India followed a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, during which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed.
This week, on the night of May 7, India announced the launch of Operation Sindhur, striking "terrorist" targets in Pakistan. And just that night, Pakistan responded by launching Operation Bunyan ul Marsus against India.
The two countries exchanged blows several times, resulting in casualties.
Yesterday, India and Pakistan agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire. The talks were mediated by the US.
