The fake video appeared on the official account of the Minister of Information.
Pakistan's government has embarrassed itself over a video game: on its official social network X account, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar published a video of a military battle, calling it "the Pakistani army's response to India's aggression." Also, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the country had "won the war."
The footage, which was posted by the Pakistani government, was circulated by UNIAN in its Telegram feed.
The short video shows an air defense system shooting down a fighter jet in mid-air.
The problem is that the "footage of destroying Indian planes" he boasted about turned out to be a snippet from the video game Arma 3. It is a popular computer video game in the genre of tactical shooter with role-playing elements, the third game in the Arma series, created by Czech company Bohemia Interactive Studio.
This is not the first time that politicians or the media have passed off graphics from games as actual combat. In 2017, the Russian Defense Ministry published "irrefutable evidence" that the U.S. was covering for ISIS militants in Syria. It turned out that one of the "proofs" was a screenshot from the mobile game AC-130 Gunship Simulator. The photo was quickly found on the developers' website. And in 2020, media in Myanmar published footage from Call of Duty. In the plot of the state channel showed a military operation against insurgents - a fragment of the video was taken from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Pakistan declared victory in the war
On the evening of May 10, also Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made a speech to the nation, during which he announced that his country had "won the war." In addition, he said, Pakistan had succeeded in destroying military bases in India.
"We have completely destroyed enemy air and military bases and also shot down Rafale aircraft," he said during the speech.
In addition, the Pakistani prime minister accused India of "killing innocent people" while the Pakistani army was "defending the country and its resources."
