On the night of March 5, an air raid alarm was declared in the Saransk region of Russia (the Republic of Mordovia within the Russian Federation) due to the threat of an attack by combat UAVs.
Around 03:00, local publics reported explosions in the region.

Russians have begun to distribute the first footage from the site of the attack by attack drones online. According to preliminary information, one of the local enterprises was hit.
At about 03:30, Russian channels reported that a fiber optics manufacturing plant was under attack.
“Eyewitnesses report that the UAVs are flying at a low altitude — about 30-50 meters. Preliminary, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are using PD-2 drones. UAVs of this type can fly over a range of more than 1,000 km,” the report says.
The plant that was likely attacked by drones manufactured optical fiber for drones.
The Exilenova+ Telegram channel reported that, preliminarily, the drones attacked the Optic Fiber Systems Joint-Stock Company. According to the channel, this enterprise is the first and only optical fiber manufacturing plant in Russia, located in Saransk (Mordovia).

Russian channels note that the enterprise manufactured fiber optic cables, which are used to control UAVs during military operations. A fire broke out on the spot: as the Russians write, it broke out in the premises of the plant.
There has been no official information about the drone attack on the plant in Saransk yet. Local authorities have also not commented on the strikes, the consequences of the attack are being clarified.
