A Russian court in Rostov-on-Don has sentenced captured Ukrainian soldiers, who previously served in the Azov Regiment at different times, to lengthy prison terms in a high-security penal colony. This was reported by a Mediazona correspondent from the courtroom.
A panel of three judges, chaired by Judge Vyacheslav Korsakov, sentenced: Yaroslav Zhdamarov, Oleksandr Merochenets, Nikita Tymonin, Oleksandr Mukhin, Oleh Tyshkul, and Artur Hretskyi to 22 years in a high-security colony. Oleksandr Irkha and Artem Hrebeshkov to 20 years. Oleh Mizhhorodskyi to 17 years. Oleh Zharkov to 13 years. Anatolii Hrytsyk to 19 years. Oleksii Smykov to 23 years. All of them plan to appeal the verdict.
The men were brought into the courtroom in shackles. Before the sentence was announced, Oleh Zharkov felt unwell—complaining of stomach pain, and an ambulance was called for him.
For eleven other defendants, sentences were issued in absentia, as they had already returned to Ukraine.
