Politico: Waltz May Be Fired Over Incident With Leaked Military Plan

The accidental adding of a reporter to a chat, in which US officials were discussing military plans, has sparked a heated discussion in the White House regarding the future fate of National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.
Politico reports this.
According to unnamed officials, nothing has been decided yet, but White House President Donald Trump may make a final decision in the next one or two days while overseeing coverage of the incident.
Two other officials believe Waltz should resign in order to prevent Trump from putting himself in a ‘bad position.’
‘It was stupid not to check who was in the chat. It was foolish to have this conversation on Signal. You can't be reckless as national security adviser,’ the official said.
At the same time, there are those who believe Waltz is in no danger. According to an unnamed person, Trump has already spoken to the national security adviser and the White House is generally supportive.
‘As Trump said, the attacks against the Houthis have been very successful and effective. The president continues to have full confidence in his national security team, including National Security Advisor Mike Waltz,’ White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said.
Another person close to the White House, who called Waltz an ‘idiot’, does not think the incident as a whole will have any consequences for the US presidential administration.
‘I don't think there are any long-term political consequences for Trump or the administration, other than it may cost Waltz his job,’ she said.
Scandalous Signal Chat Meeting
On 11 March, the editor-in-chief of US publication of The Atlantic was accidentally added to a closed chat room on the Signal messenger where officials were discussing strikes against the Houthis in Yemen.
As the media wrote, the discussion of military plans in a regular chat room caused a serious reaction from a number of politicians. In particular, congressmen called for an investigation into the scandalous incident.
