Doctors Fleeing Minsk En Masse

Over the year, 1170 specialists have quit.

1170 doctors quit in Minsk in 2024. Chairman of the Health Committee of Minsk City Executive Committee Ihar Yurkevich, however, sees ‘a positive trend in consolidating the medical staff’. According to him, the staff turnover decreased last year and amounted to 11.7% (11.81% in 2023). The staffing of physician positions increased by 2 per cent and amounted to 95 per cent (93.1 per cent in the previous year). If we believe these figures, the changes are minimal. And this is despite that there are data about overestimated medical staffing by 20%.

As Euroradio previously reported, the biggest shortage of doctors is in Minsk. The number of vacancies for doctors has increased by 10.3%, while the number of middle-level medical staff - by 20.1%. Officials of the Ministry of Health report about it in the documents.

As for the positive dynamics of staffing with doctors and medical personnel, it hides a serious load on employees: the coefficient of doctors' double jobholding (1.24) is close to the critical value (1.25). This is indicative of overwork. Doctors are forced to combine several positions to compensate for the shortage of colleagues.
