Negotiations Under Cannonfire

Putin rejected both ceasefire proposals.
Yesterday's talks between Trump and Putin, during which the Russian dictator allegedly ordered his troops to halt strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, ended with yet another massive bombing. The Russians launched six ballistic missiles and 145 strike drones, hitting civilian targets in various regions of the country.
The next round of talks between the U.S. and Russia is scheduled for this coming Sunday — delegations are set to meet in Saudi Arabia. However, it's already possible to track a certain dynamic.
There were two proposals — American and European; both were supported by Kyiv. Washington suggested a comprehensive ceasefire for 30 days. Europe proposed a ceasefire in the air and at sea, but not on the ground. Putin, apparently, rejected both options and likely made some promises not to strike energy infrastructure. He may be hoping this will stop painful Ukrainian attacks on Russia's oil refineries.
Putin will drag out the process and agree only to proposals that allow him to secure the most advantageous position on the battlefield. He refuses to accept a ceasefire that could save lives right now, framing it with unachievable conditions. Putin wants to conduct long negotiations under the sound of cannonfire, attempting to achieve his goals through military means.
