The Ukrainian Defence Forces have started using a new type of drone interceptors designed to destroy Russian reconnaissance drones. This was reported by the Militarny resource on 17 March.

According to the source, the published photos and videos allowed to identify the previously unknown device. The footage shows it approaching the Russian copter at high speed, presumably for ramming or remote detonation. However, the attack did not successfully hit the target.

As noted by Militarny, the distinctive feature of the drone is its design: it is equipped with a cross-shaped tail wing and front wings with vertical rudders.

Image analysis shows that the controls are located in the front part, while the rear wings serve for stabilising. The drone is powered by a three-bladed propeller at the stern. Also the elements fixed with tape, probably containing a camera or a combat unit, are noticeable. However, the possible presence of a guidance system has not yet been confirmed.

Experts added that Ukraine is actively building up a fleet of interceptor drones used against Russian UAVs. They range from simple models that destroy the target on impact to more sophisticated systems with radio detonation and guidance.
