‘It Flying, It Buzzing’: Saratov Residents Count Up To 11 Explosions Near Engels Aerodrome

New details of the UAV attack.

On the night of 11 February, drones attacked the Engels military airfield in Saratov region. Russian blogs report that the attack started around 3:25, and allegedly at 3:00 the Russian Ministry of Defence brought all its aircraft into the air, anticipating the danger.

The drone attack at the Engels airfield could be a retaliatory strike in response to cruise missile launches from Russian territory into Ukraine, Dialogue.UA wrote.

On the previous day, late in the evening, launching of Kalibrs were recorded from Novorossiysk, and also the Kremlin launched kamikaze drones.

Ukraine responded with strikes against the military airfield in Saratov region.

Locals are actively sharing on the Net videos of both the work of Russian air defence systems and ‘fly-ins’. Local public pages report about 11 explosions coming from the direction of the Engels aerodrome.

‘Vivid’ photo reports only confirm that the praised Pantsir system failed to intercept all the drones.

It is interesting that a possible drone attack was suspected in Saratov, as the governor warned residents in advance.

We remind you that strategic Tu-160 and Tu-95MS bombers are based at the Engels airfield. The 121st Sevastopol and 184th regiments are also stationed there.

Since 2022, the Kremlin has been using this airbase to launch missile strikes against Ukraine. Ukraine first attacked the airbase on 5 December 2022 using a Strizh drone.

As a result, two Tu-95 bombers were damaged. The Supernova+ channel also reports that the Saratov Kraking oil refinery could have been hit.
