U.S. lawmakers want to create a department in the State Department, which will deal with countering Russian influence. This is stated in the draft of the defense budget for the current fiscal year (National Defense Authorization Act, NDAA).

Congressmen want to oblige the Secretary of State to create a unit that would "counter Russian influence on sovereign countries and other Russian actions" in countries that are Washington's allies or partners.
