40 Energy Facilities Worth $11 Bln Have Been Put Into Operation In Uzbekistan

3.5 GW of solar, wind and hydro generation has been launched.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a ceremony to launch new generation and energy infrastructure facilities worth nearly $11 billion, as well as the start of construction of 21 more projects. As the head of state noted, these facilities form the basis of the strategy to strengthen the national energy sector and expand the share of clean energy.

Forty-two generation, storage and production facilities have been commissioned. Among them are 16 solar, wind, thermal and hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 3.5 thousand MW and costing $3.3 billion. They are located in Karakalpakstan, Bukhara, Kashkadarya and Tashkent regions. After reaching the design indicators, the stations will be able to provide up to 15 billion kWh of electricity per year.

Mirziyoyev emphasized that the volume of "green" generation in the country in 2025 will reach 23 billion kWh - enough to fully cover the annual needs of the population. By expanding the use of clean sources, Uzbekistan plans to reduce natural gas consumption by almost 7 billion cubic meters and prevent the emission of 11 million tons of harmful substances.

The commissioned facilities include 10 energy storage systems with a total capacity of 1,245 MW, capable of supplying up to 1.5 billion kWh to the grid during peak hours. Also, 11 substations and 420 kilometers of high-voltage power transmission lines have been put into operation, which will increase the stability of the energy system.

Besides generation, Angren Energo enterprises are launched to produce 15 thousand transformers a year and Uzhydropower, which will produce 155 hydroelectric units annually.

The President said that in the next five years Uzbekistan plans to implement more than a thousand industrial and infrastructure projects with the attraction of over $150 billion in investments. In energy and IT, supercomputer clusters and data centers are planned to be developed, including the DataVolt project with a capacity of 500 MW and costing $3 billion.

Mirziyoyev also stressed the importance of regional cooperation in energy. Next year financing of Kambarata HPP-1 will begin jointly with Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Separately, he noted the initiatives of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan within the framework of creating a "green corridor" for the export of electricity to Europe.
