The reason was the objects that flew into the airspace from the direction of Belarus.
In the evening, December 6, Vilnius International Airport again imposed restrictions on flights. The reason was the objects that flew into the airspace of the country from Belarus. This is reported by Delfi with reference to the National Crisis Management Center (NKVC).
According to the agency, navigation marks, characteristic of balloons, were recorded in the danger zone. The NKVC called what was happening a "hybrid attack carried out by Belarus."
To ensure the safety of civil aviation, passengers and the public, the airspace above the capital's airport was restricted from 6:06 p.m. to 9:05 p.m. Special services monitored the movement of objects to open the sky earlier if possible, if the threat disappeared.
The publication later reported that flights resumed as early as 19.30 local time.
Reminder, because of regular incidents of balloons flying in from the territory of Belarus, the Lithuanian authorities are considering various response measures. In particular, the possibility of transferring night flights from Vilnius to Kaunas was discussed.
In addition, December 5, advisor to the Prime Minister Ignas Dobrovolskas said that the government was preparing to declare an emergency situation due to the threat to public safety. This regime will give additional powers to the services and allow for faster introduction of restrictive measures without lengthy procedures.
