A Movie About The 2020 Revolution Is Out On HBO And Other Streaming Platforms

How and where can I view it?

The feature film "Under a Gray Sky" directed by Mara Tamkovic has appeared on a number of online platforms, including HBO Max, Canal+, Polsat Box and others. You can watch the film on subscriptions starting at $10, reports "Belsat".

The film's appearance on streaming services is long-awaited: it premiered back in June 2024, but previously it was only shown at festivals and in limited release in a handful of theaters outside of Belarus. Now you can watch it online (in Belarus you may need a VPN and a card from a non-sanctioned bank, which will work for payment).

The film "Under the Gray Sky" is based on real events and tells the story of Belsat journalist Ekaterina Andreeva and her husband Igor Ilyash. Both are now political prisoners in Belarus. The movie about them is not a documentary, but it is based on a real story, including conversations between the director and Ilyash and with journalist Darya Chultsova, who was detained together with Ekaterina. The film was shot on a minimal budget, with only 15 days to shoot.

"Under the Gray Sky" won at the 2024 Northern Lights festival, and Mara Tamkowicz won the Best Debut Award at the 49th Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia. Now the film has been nominated for European Discovery of the Year at the European Film Awards, United Europe's premier cinematic prize, sometimes called the European Oscars. The award ceremony will take place on January 17, 2026.
