The 20th sanctions package is now in its final stages.
The EU has almost finalized the agreement of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, increasing pressure on the Kremlin and supporting Ukraine.
As RBC-Ukraine, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful said this before the start of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Vienna.
He said the EU continues to support Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia.
"The way to bring Russia back to the negotiating table is absolutely clear. It lies in us clearly standing up for Ukraine and continuing to support it. That's what we demonstrated yesterday in the NATO defense ministers' meeting - a willingness to provide even bigger aid packages. And the fact that we are making frozen Russian assets available for use also shows that," Wadeful said.
He added that Ukraine is supported by "a large family of countries in Europe and beyond."
The minister also emphasized that increased sanctions pressure is the second key aspect of the EU's policy towards Russia.
"The 20th package of sanctions will soon be completed," Wadeful emphasized.
The new package, he said, should increase economic and political pressure on Russia and its allies, with a focus on the energy and financial sectors.
The third aspect, according to the German minister, concerns readiness for dialogue.
"Third, readiness for dialogue - and Ukraine is ready for it. Russia is missing at the negotiating table. But it will have to appear at the table at some point. Every war ends at some point. We care that Ukraine ends it with a strong negotiating position," he emphasized.
The European Commission earlier reported about its intentions to introduce separate sanctions lists against shadow fleet tankers, which may become part of a new package of restrictive measures.
