Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has decided to appoint his military secretary Roman Hoffman as the new head of the Mossad (Israel's Intelligence and Security Service), the Israeli head of government's office said in a statement.

The future general was born in Mozyr in 1976. In 1990, he repatriated with his parents to Israel. He studied in a high school in Ashdod and then in a military hostel in the settlement of Eli.

In 1995, he was drafted to serve in the armored forces of the Israel Defense Forces. He served as a platoon commander and then as a company commander. On October 7, 2023, while fighting Hamas militants, he was seriously wounded in a battle near Sderot.
