Russian General: We Have Learned A Cruel Lesson In Ukraine, The People There Are Against Us
General Vladimir Chirkin

A former commander of the Russian Ground Forces has declared the failure of the SWO.

Russian media aired an unexpected admission of the failure of the so-called "special operation". The former commander of the Russian Ground Forces said that the army was unprepared for real combat operations.

"To be honest, (...) in my opinion, (...) once again Russia was not ready for war, as it was in previous years and in previous centuries. Moreover, there has traditionally been an underestimation of the enemy and an overestimation of its troops," General Vladimir Chirkin told the RBC channel.

The military commander said the Kremlin launched the invasion without proper preparation and under the influence of catastrophically flawed intelligence:

"If you remember, on February 22, they started saying that the war would be over in three days. "Now we're going to do them." Somewhere the "Tbilisi syndrome" and the events of the five-day war with Georgia worked. But ... it didn't work out that way.

I would give an unsatisfactory grade to our entire Russian intelligence community. In fact, the leadership of the country was told, I would say, false information: that 70% of the population of Ukraine is in favor of us, and 30% is against us. It turned out exactly the opposite: 30% for us, and 70% against."

As a result, as Chirkin recalled, "literally in the first weeks we received a serious hard lesson," referring to the complete defeat of Russian troops near Kiev and the forced retreat from the north of Ukraine.

"And the former defense minister (Shoigu - note) tried to get out of this situation nicely, calling what was happening a gesture of good will," the general continued and added:

"How many dead, wounded and maimed we left there, our army knows that. And, I think, history has not been fully covered yet."

In addition, the commander criticized the technical backwardness of the Russian army, which has not drawn conclusions from modern conflicts.
