Will one of the biggest mysteries in aviation history be solved?
The search for the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines Boeing flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing will resume on December 30, more than 10 years after the plane disappeared with 239 people on board. The announcement was made by Malaysian authorities, reports BBC.
This is a continuation of a search that began in March this year but was soon suspended due to bad weather conditions.
The search operation is scheduled to last 55 days. Exactly where the search will take place has not been announced.
"The latest developments underscore [Malaysia's] commitment to provide support to the families affected by this tragedy," the transport ministry said on Wednesday, local media reported.
The Boeing 777, which was flying flight MH370, disappeared on March 8, 2014. The mysterious disappearance of the airliner was followed by the largest and most expensive search in aviation history.
The search is being conducted by Ocean Infinity. The terms of the contract stipulate that the company will receive no monetary reward if the wreckage of the airliner is not found.
If the wreckage is found, Ocean Infinity will receive $70 million, Transportation Minister Loke Siew Fook said earlier.
The search, which began after the disappearance of the airliner, involved many countries and involved about 60 ships and 50 aircraft from 26 countries.
The disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 10 years ago has been called "one of the major mysteries in aviation history."
