Putin Gave Kushner Historical Lectures On The Battle Of Poltava

The Russian dictator has struck fantasy again.

During a private meeting in the Kremlin, Putin suddenly turned to his favorite - his own fantasies about history, telling Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner about the Battle of Poltava in 1709. It's about one of the key battles of the Great Northern War, in which Peter the Great's troops defeated Charles XII's Swedish army along with part of a Cossack force led by Ivan Mazepa.

"At least Jared learned something about the Battle of Poltava," journalist Michael Weiss commented on the content of the talks.

Soviet and Russian interpretations of the events of the Northern War, during which the Battle of Poltava took place, are one of the cornerstones with which Kremlin propaganda attempts to justify its claim to Ukraine. This is not the first time Putin has perverted history by claiming that Ukraine was "created" by Lenin and Stalin, ignored the international legal reality after 1991, and tried to legitimize aggression through the mythology of "historical territories." All this is repeated in every conversation with Western interlocutors, regardless of the topic.

Historical lectures are the dictator's favorite propaganda technique, because Putin has been running away into history for years when he loses in contemporary events, has no arguments and wants to cloud reality. So the mention of Poltava is just another round of his pseudo-historical nonsense.

Remember, in interview with American Tucker Carlson, Putin spent 25 minutes giving viewers a "historical background" on the history of Ukraine - from Rurik to the partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. In Alaska, according to media reports, Putin also brought "historical documents."
