New details of the strike on Novorossiysk.
The Security Service has revealed new details of preparations for the bombing of a Russian submarine in the port of Novorossiysk. One of the key stages of the special operation was the disabling of the Russian Il-38N maritime reconnaissance aircraft, which could have prevented the submarine from being hit.
The SBU press service said.
The Ukrainian security service noted that in preparation for a strike on the submarine, officers of the 13th Main Directorate of the SBU's Military Counterintelligence Department hit a modernized Il-38N (Sea Dragon) reconnaissance aircraft at Yeisk airbase.
"This aircraft is designed for maritime reconnaissance, search for submarines, control of water areas, setting mine barriers and torpedo strikes. The affected aircraft actively counteracted the work of SBU maritime drones. The approximate cost of this aircraft is $24 million," the report said.
The Security Service says the Russians had only one aircraft of this class in the Black Sea, capable of detecting the Sub Sea Baby underwater drone as it moved toward its target.
The SSU says the IL-38H's decommissioning ensured the successful execution of the main part of the special operation - the detonation of the Varshavyanka-class submarine.
The security service said a modern drone with an above-ground detonation warhead equipped with two thousand downward-pointing striking elements was used to hit the maritime reconnaissance aircraft.
The explosion occurred directly above the compartment with the main equipment and radars, and also damaged the engine, the security service said.
"The published footage of the successful attack on the Russian aircraft clearly demonstrates the real level of protection of enemy strategic facilities, which differs significantly from internal reports and public statements of the Russian Defense Ministry," the SBU said.
