Umerov: The Meeting In The U.S. Is Over, Negotiations Will Continue
Rustem Umerov

Next will come the U.S. negotiations with the Russian Federation.

A Ukrainian delegation headed by the head of the country's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), Rustem Umerov, has concluded talks with representatives of the administration of US President Donald Trump in Miami. Umerov reported about the end of the meeting, which took place on Friday, December 19, local time, in his Telegram channel.

Umerov did not give details of the discussion, but noted that Kiev's "European partners" were also present at the meeting. "Completed a meeting in the United States with American and European partners. Informed the President of Ukraine on its results. Agreed with our American partners on further steps and continuation of joint work in the near future," - wrote the head of the National Security and Defense Council.

Before the trip to the United States Umerov emphasized that in Miami the parties will discuss the developments that were discussed during the meeting of the delegations of Ukraine and the United States in Geneva on November 23. They, in turn, were made on the basis of the so-called "Trump's plan for Ukraine," writes "Deutsche Welle".

Russian Federation

Russian delegation headed by the special representative of the Russian president Kirill Dmitriev is expected in Miami on December 20 and 21. He will also hold talks with U.S. Presidential Special Envoy Steve Whitkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Whitkoff and Kushner, meanwhile, held talks with the Ukrainian delegation in Berlin on December 14 and 15, which were also attended by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. As a result of these meetings, the US side promised to provide Ukraine with security guarantees in case the war unleashed against it by Russia ends.

Putin continues to demand that Donbass be given to him

One of the main stumbling blocks in Trump's plan, according to media reports, was a clause implying the de facto transfer to Russia of territories in Donetsk and Lugansk regions not captured by it. Kushner and Whitkoff, well-received by Moscow, also insisted on this at the meeting in Berlin, the AFP news agency noted.

With the document being discussed, demands for the transfer of territories began to be openly and frequently voiced by the Kremlin. Russian President Vladimir Putin has combined them with threats to seize Ukrainian regions by force if Kiev does not fulfill his wishes. During his "direct line" on December 19, the Kremlin head mentioned these territorial ambitions again.

Ukraine, in turn, as Vladimir Zelensky said a few days ago, will not recognize Donbass as Russian either de facto or de jure. According to the Ukrainian leader, the United States is "looking for a compromise" on this issue.
