Ukraine will not allow "playing behind its back".
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has said that the war must be ended so that Russia will not be able to carry out a third invasion of Ukraine.
According to RBC-Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky said this at a press conference with Irish Prime Minister Mychol Martin.
Vladimir Zelensky said that Ukraine understands well both the realities of the war and the nature of Russian aggression, so the process of achieving peace will not have simple solutions.
"First of all, I want to say that there will be no simple solutions. We understand what is happening and we understand who we are dealing with," the head of state emphasized.
At the same time, according to Zelensky, any decisions to end the war must be made fairly, openly and solely taking into account Ukrainian interests.
"We must end this war so that then, a year later, Russia will not come again with the third invasion in this 10-year period. That may be because that was their main goal. They have not achieved their goal of occupying our state, but their goals may still be valid. We need reliable defense," the Ukrainian head of state stressed.
In addition, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine would not allow "playing behind its back" and would not agree to decisions made without its participation. Zelensky said he was ready to make decisions about the future of Ukrainians.
"Whoever is capable of making decisions will make them. I am able to do it," Zelensky emphasized, adding that no agreements should be made without Ukraine's participation.
The head of Ukraine paid special attention to security guarantees. According to him, it is important for Ukrainians not only to receive some guarantees on paper, but, first of all, to clearly understand what exactly the allies guarantee and how it will be implemented.
"This is not an experiment on people, these are living people, our citizens who have paid too high a price for freedom," Zelensky said.
Zelensky reminded that the war was started by Russia to destroy Ukraine, and the world witnessed this aggression. Ukraine was able to repel the offensive thanks to the strength of its citizens, the army and the support of international partners, particularly Europe and the United States.
The Ukrainian president emphasized that the bloodshed was already enough and thanked the United States for its support.
Zelensky also touched on the issue of the military returning home: "Our soldiers will rightly go home, but unfortunately, not all will survive. When they return to peaceful life - they will become teachers, engineers, specialists - we must be sure that Russia will not prepare a new invasion."
The President emphasized the need for certainty for Ukrainians and the support of international guarantees: the United States is ready to be a guarantor of Ukraine's security, Europe sees Ukraine as part of the EU, and this is also part of the guarantees.
"The only question is when Ukraine will become a full member of the EU: in this century or the next. Certainty for people is what is needed," Zelensky summarized.
