Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has paid an official visit to Poland, where he held meetings with the leadership of the state and parliament. During the talks, the sides discussed the security situation, defense cooperation, sanctions pressure on Russia and support for Ukraine.
The Charter97.org website cites the main results and statements of the leaders of Ukraine and Poland.
In the course of the visit, Volodymyr Zelensky met with Polish President Karol Nawrocki. The parties discussed the state of bilateral relations, Russia's war against Ukraine and diplomatic efforts to protect Europe.
"Glad to be back on an official visit to Poland. I am grateful to President Navrotsky for our conversation and I very much hope that this visit opens a new, even more weighty stage in our relations with you - Ukraine and Poland," said Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Ukrainian President emphasized that the independence of Ukraine and Poland is the foundation of the security of the whole Europe and the pledge of freedom of the peoples of the region without the influence of Moscow.
"Ukrainian independence and Polish independence is the foundation that allows every nation in our part of Europe to live freely, without the power of Moscow," Zelensky said.
Zelensky also held meetings with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The Ukrainian president said that the unity between Ukraine and Poland is "the worst thing" for Russia.
While greeting Zelensky, Tusk expressed respect for him, saying that "your struggle is our common struggle."
"You are a hero not only in Ukraine, but here in Poland, [we] also treat you as a hero," the Polish prime minister said.
Tusk subsequently repeated his comment from yesterday that Ukraine's fight against Russia protects Poland's independence, which could otherwise be jeopardized if Russia is allowed to win the war.
In response, Zielenski spoke in the same vein: "The worst thing for Russia is if we stand together. Because they will definitely not be able to defeat both of us."
Also during the visit, he met with Polish Sejm Marshal Wlodzimierz Czarzasty. The parties discussed strengthening defense cooperation, economic partnership, participation of Polish companies in the reconstruction of Ukraine, sanctions against Russia and joint efforts to return Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.
Separate attention was paid to the support of Ukrainian citizens in Poland. Zelensky thanked for the adoption of the law to extend the stay of Ukrainians, and also touched upon the issue of historical memory of the two nations.
"I think that historical issues should unite and strengthen nations, and leaders should remind that Ukraine and Poland have more common victories than tragedies," said Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Ukrainian president also emphasized Poland's role in international security formats, in particular its participation in 12 meetings of the Coalition of the willing, where security guarantees for Ukraine were discussed.
In addition, Zelensky said the decision of European Union leaders to provide Ukraine with an interest-free loan of 90 billion euros related to future Russian reparations was important. According to him, this will ensure financial stability and support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Separately, the President of Ukraine drew attention to security threats in connection with the relocation of the Oreshnik complex to the territory of Belarus and called on partners to strengthen sanctions pressure on Russia and companies supplying components for this weapon.
In the framework of the visit, Volodymyr Zelensky also met with the Polish Senate Marshal Malgorzata Kidova-Blonska. During the meeting, the parties discussed the territorial integrity of Ukraine, interaction between parliaments, historical memory, cooperation with the US Congress and the importance of transatlantic unity in the sanctions policy against Russia.
The President of Ukraine thanked the Polish side for its consistent support of the Ukrainian people and state.
