At the behest of President Donald Trump, the United States is suspending the Green Card Lottery. This was announced by U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem.
The reason is due to Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, who recently went on a shooting spree at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He, according to authorities, entered the United States in 2017 after winning a green card in the Green Card Lottery.
"This vile man should never have been allowed to enter our country. In 2017, President Trump fought to end this program after a horrific incident in New York City when an ISIS terrorist who entered under the DV1 (Green Card Lottery. - Ed.) program rammed a truck into eight people. At the direction of President Trump, I am immediately directing USCIS to suspend the DV1 program to ensure that no more Americans are harmed by this disastrous program," said Kristi Noem.
