Yerevan received 22 tank cars with 1210 tons of gasoline.

Azerbaijan shipped oil products to Armenia by rail on Thursday, the first such export in decades and a significant breakthrough in efforts to normalize relations between the two countries.

It was reported by Euronews.

On Thursday, 22 rail tank cars carrying 1,210 tons of AI-95 gasoline produced by Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR were delivered and headed to Armenia via Georgia.

Officials from both countries said the exports were a significant step that went beyond political statements and demonstrated the practical economic benefits of peace.

The fuel supply is the result of an agreement reached on November 28 in Gabala, in northwestern Azerbaijan, where Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev met with his Armenian counterpart Mger Grigoryan.

Armenia currently imports more than 60% of its fuel from Russia - 230,000 tons of gasoline and 175,000 tons of diesel in 2024 - with the rest coming from Iran, Romania, Malta and Turkey.

On August 8, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed an agreement at the White House in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump that includes the creation of a transit corridor to be called the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity.
