Gold Prices Rose Above $4400 Per Ounce For The First Time In History

The exchange price of gold for the first time in history exceeded $4400 per ounce. February futures for the precious metal on the New York Mercantile Exchange (COMEX) at trading on Thursday, December 18, rose by 0.79% - to $4408.6 per ounce, according to trading data as of 19:19 Minsk time.
The previous peak price was on October 20 at $4398 per ounce.
Since the beginning of 2025, exchange prices for gold have added more than 60%, while silver - 116%. This year, gold is on track to post its best annual gains since 1979, according to Bloomberg calculations. These rallies have been supported by active buying by central banks and investor outflows from bonds and currencies, the agency explains.
