Germany Allocates Additional Winter Aid For Ukraine

The goal is to provide heating, water and electricity to more than 2.5 million people.

In the wake of Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, the German government has allocated an additional 70 million euros in aid to Kiev.

German Development Minister Rim Alabali-Radovan said this in an interview with Tagesschau.

Alabali-Radovan said her ministry is expanding aid "to provide heating, water and electricity to more than two and a half million people."

"Especially now, during the cold winter, immediate assistance is crucial to meet Ukraine's basic energy needs," she said.

The funds are primarily earmarked for investments in decentralized heating, such as mobile heating units.

"Municipalities should be able to guarantee heating for schools, kindergartens and hospitals, even if large power plants have been attacked. These energy supply measures will help people organize their daily lives," the minister stressed.

It is noted that the Ukrainian side addressed Germany with a corresponding request.
