Finland's President Has Canceled A Trip To The U.S.
Alexander Stubb

The politician will go to Berlin for talks on Ukraine.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb will take part in talks on the situation in Ukraine in German Berlin on Monday, December 15.

The country's presidential office announced this, Yle reports.

It is noted that Stubb had initially planned to go to Texas in the United States, but the trip was canceled "due to the critical situation in Ukraine."

So he will go to Germany and participate in a meeting on a possible ceasefire in Ukraine.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz invited U.S. representatives to join the meeting.

The invitation came after a tense phone call Wednesday between Merz, Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer and Donald Trump, during which the two sides struggled to overcome differences over the direction of peace efforts.

Trump later acknowledged the disputes, saying there were "pretty strong words" during the conversation, underscoring disagreements over the approach the U.S. supports.

The Wall Street Journal wrote that the U.S. president's special envoy Steve Whitkoff will meet with European leaders and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Berlin.
