As directed by President Trump.
The United States is lifting sanctions on Belarusian potash. This was announced by U.S. presidential envoy John Cole at a meeting with Alexander Lukashenko on December 13.
"In accordance with President Trump's instructions, the U.S. is lifting sanctions on potash. I think this is a very good move on the part of the US for Belarus. We are lifting them now," John Cole said.
He noted that communication on the topic of sanctions will continue further.
As BelTA writes, Cole's talks with Alexander Lukashenko, according to the assessment of the American side, "were very productive." During the communication, the war between Ukraine and Russia was discussed, as well as the situation in Venezuela.
"We had a very good conversation. We talked about the future. About how to follow the path of rapprochement between the U.S. and Belarus to normalize relations. That's our goal," the US representative said.
Answering a question about what should be done to further normalize relations, John Cole said:
"Exactly what we're already doing. We're lifting sanctions, we're releasing prisoners. We're talking to each other all the time. As we get closer and closer, talk more, exchange ideas, let's just say there's a process of moving from the first baby steps to already more confident steps," the U.S. representative said.
